“What I dream of is an art of balance, purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing calming influence on the mind rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” – Henri Matisse
A Life Without Gods – Moral Choices
It seems to be fashionable in certain segments of society to claim that those who do not believe in a god are also amoral, evil, or worse. That is certainly not how I have lived my own life and it is not how I was taught to approach life by the people who shaped my world view when I was young. Neither promise of “heaven” nor threat of “hell” are necessary to motivate me to do right by my fellow humans. I have found that the doing is reward enough in itself.
All I Want for Christmas
Santa Claus, a filled stocking, the tree in all its glory – as Christmas draws near, I’m reminded of the magic as seen through a little girl’s eyes. And although I still love the twinkling lights and the early mornings in my pyjamas, waiting for everyone to get up, I no longer have a wish list. Well, there may be one item on that list, but it’s a pretty tall order – even for Santa.
Am I Stealing or Am I Being Human?
When I stop and pick even a few berries, often there is an anxiety accompanying this act. I frequently look around and wonder about being perceived as stealing, never mind that the bulk of the berries end up dropping to the ground and are either eaten by animals or return to the soil untouched.

Three Silver Candles
This must be what Pope Francis meant when he said don’t be overwhelmed by the sheer number of refugees… the oppressed poor, but to look into their faces: people wanting only a better future for their children. Planting seeds of hope, not hate.

You Will Never Reach Your Goals
The problem with traditional goal-setting is that it usually begins with a statement or declaration of desire, want, or need, and it lacks the diligent work required to be successful. At its best, some logical and critical thinking might be applied to the actions, tasks and steps required to move you towards a goal; but the whole process lacks the depth that these critical factors require to ensure success.
A Life Without Gods – Life and Meaning
Is it necessary to believe in life after death in order to find meaning in this life? This is a question that I answer for myself every day with a resounding “NO!” This life, this extraordinary universe, is more than enough to explore and give my life purpose and meaning. The great adventure of learning how to be in this world is all that I need to find meaning in this life.
Eliminate Stress Through Leadership
This isn’t another post to tell you how to manage stress. Managing stress is about coping, or simply surviving, or getting by. There’s more to life than coping.
