I have learned that if I don’t constantly, compassionately and patiently apply better standards, by forgiving those parts of me that had me convinced that I was not designed for more – like when I feel sorry for myself that I cannot join my fellow cardio level uppers – then wubbalubbadubdub…watch
Move Over, Laughter – Crying is the New Best Medicine
For years, I fought the urge to cry. Thankfully, I’ve recently discovered what I’ve been missing.
I Was There
A few mementos, new surroundings and much-needed time – now, I could remember.
Tree Zen
In August, I went to a forest of Redwood trees in California with my partner. We’d been there once before, and wanted to visit what was determined to be the oldest tree in the grove – over 1400 years old.
A Life Without Gods – The Devil You Don’t Know
It’s remarkable how little the term “atheist” tells you about someone. The one thing it does tell you is that we are not convinced of the existence of a god. But we believe in lots of things. It might be worth having a conversation to learn more about each other. Perhaps a dance with “the devil you don’t know” and you might find we have a lot in common.
A Life Without Gods – Salvation
Our personal beliefs are just that – personal. Humans are social creatures and we are concerned for the welfare and well being of those around us. The personal can become very public if we try to “save” each other from ideas we believe are “wrong” or “untrue.” Many religions “salvation” built into them but apparently many atheists and non-believers have their own version too!
Can Herbal Medicine Heal the World?
Herbalism has made a resurgence in North America over the past three decades or so. However, it has done so in a way that has stripped away much of the power, beauty and wisdom.
Self-Driving Cars Continue to Move Closer to Mainstream!
It’s the technology of the moment: the self-driving car, come to deliver us all from the daily grind of having to be in full control of our vehicle at all times, freeing up more reading and working time on long journeys. But it’s been a frustrating few years as the ‘hype curve’ of the technology has peaked, with the initial enthusiasm losing a bit of steam as reality sets in.
A Life Without Gods – Moral Choices
It seems to be fashionable in certain segments of society to claim that those who do not believe in a god are also amoral, evil, or worse. That is certainly not how I have lived my own life and it is not how I was taught to approach life by the people who shaped my world view when I was young. Neither promise of “heaven” nor threat of “hell” are necessary to motivate me to do right by my fellow humans. I have found that the doing is reward enough in itself.
All I Want for Christmas
Santa Claus, a filled stocking, the tree in all its glory – as Christmas draws near, I’m reminded of the magic as seen through a little girl’s eyes. And although I still love the twinkling lights and the early mornings in my pyjamas, waiting for everyone to get up, I no longer have a wish list. Well, there may be one item on that list, but it’s a pretty tall order – even for Santa.
