Due to a “challenge” put before me by a good friend, today I attempt something I know I’m not good at – using brevity in one of my food posts. While I’m at it I’ll work at preparing our taste buds for our upcoming Mexican vacation by preparing a hot, spicy little side dish that is totally fantastic – Jalapeño-Cilantro Coleslaw!
As kids, many of us grow up being told not to talk to strangers, and for good reason. But if we don’t start talking to strangers when we get older, we miss out on meeting some amazing people, who can change our lives in many ways. I had such an experience a couple years ago when boarding a crowded train in Peru, and sat next to a family who was traveling the world. After introducing myself, I was spellbound at what they had to say, and their story changed the way I look at life, myself and the world in general.
John Davidson is one of my personal heroes. He is an unflinching beacon of courage, strength, compassion and kindness. Above all, John Davidson is a father whose actions speak very, very loudly, and an inspiration for anyone who takes the few minutes to hear his story. I’m asking that you be one of these people. I promise that if you are, you will be incredibly moved by the huge commitment this parent makes to both his child, and to his community as a whole.
