The human tendency to self cherish is the main dish of our existence. Humans have been eating it up, probably since the beginning of our species. In addition to the main dish is a set of side dishes called consumerism, capitalism, and commodification. Ever seductive, they add endless flavors and textures onto the main dish. Halong Bay, Vietnam: Two Days and a Night
My visit to Halong Bay in the north of Vietnam was one of those few visits where reality lived up to my expectations. All the pictures and stories from the travel promotions were dead accurate. If only eyes could see what can be done; if only hands would set to work, determined to make a difference; if only instead of asking for one, we ourselves would lend a helping hand. The Nova Star is more than a ferry that links Maine and Nova Scotia. It’s a luxury, an experience, part of the thrill of travel. The difference is that cruise ships are essentially floating resorts, an end in themselves. The Nova Star is that rare combination of necessary travel made experiential.
Tarmac Meditations #155: In Search of Lost Time (Apologies to Marcel Proust)
Not so fast, Michael. It is going to take a long while to work through what is in front of me. It is possible and indeed likely that I will one day in the distant future go out for a double-digit run and not wind up in an ER somewhere. I am looking forward to that.
How Well Do You Really Know Your Customers?
Whatever you are selling, you can only talk about it for so long. Getting to know your clients makes the whole experience more fun and much more rewarding. Sure, the sale is a good thing, but relationships are far more important in the long run!
How Addiction is Affecting the American Workplace
The notion that drug addicts are all unsuccessful and unemployed individuals is a long fostered misconception. However, a National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2013 showed that over half of adults (55.7%) over the age of 18 suffering from substance dependence or abuse were employed full time.
