In a world that is becoming increasingly fast paced, it is healthy to spend some time meditating. Meditation relieves stress by giving you more control over your nervous system and emotions. In addition, it helps improve your ability to concentrate. You’ll notice your energy increases as you spend time reflecting. You may also exude a more positive outlook after taking the time to meditate. Given all of the benefits, it makes sense to create a space within your own home that is designated for finding peace. We’ve come up with ways you can transform a part of your home in to your sacred space.
Set up Your Space Near a Scenic View
When trying to find a room in your home that is ideal for mediation, take in the views from your windows. Is there a space where you can set up by a window that overlooks a garden or outdoor space? Areas like this will prove more soothing and comfortable. If you do not have a room with a view, you can create one on your own. Get creative and decorate the room to create the feeling of being outdoors.
Decorate With Light Colors
Choose a room with windows and cover them with sheer shades so the light seeps into the room. You should also open the windows from time to time to let in fresh air. Keeping the room well-ventilated will help create a relaxing environment.
Make the Room Smell Nice
Lighting candles or incense sticks when you meditate can have a calming effect. A nice smell will help create a soothing environment. Watching candles burn as you recite mantras can help you better reap the benefits of meditating.
Keep It Clean and Without Clutter
Select a few items that will aid you in meditating and leave everything else out. The key to meditating is zeroing in on calming your mind so you don’t want anything in your line of vision that distracts from that. Simply have your candles, meditation beads, rug, or other items that help with the activity. Don’t even bring your cell phone into the room. You want to be able to disconnect from the outside world for a little while.
Lay Out a Meditation Rug for Comfort
When you’re decorating your space make it comfortable. Choose a rug that complements the aura of the space. You will be on the ground for a while so you will want to consider how usable the rug is for the space. Some people also like to have a back cushion for more comfort. You may also choose to simply use a chair instead if sitting on the ground is too hard for you.
Listen to Soothing Music
Music can help you delve deeper into your meditation. Often times it’s hard to keep you mind from wandering to your worries. Hearing music will help you focus on the here and now. Choose soft instrumental music and play it in the background. You want to get a tranquil vibe when you enter the space. Do not choose music with lyrics. Go with ocean sounds or birds chirping. You want something natural that won’t distract from your experience.
Infuse Nature into Your Space
Connecting with nature is key when meditating. Place plants in your space or have a small fountain. The sound of the water or the smell of flowers will create a calming sensation. Elements of nature create harmony and balance.
