The image below is of a peaceful place years after a brutal fire. The sun rises on a new day and like the runners who passed through just a few days ago, the land continues to renew itself; just as the personal efforts of each and every runner may bring individual renewal and generate a higher and better response to the worst that life throws at them. It is a long way to the Jersey Shore from this desert “wash” but I know that some of the folks who ran Javelina this weekend will go home to ravaged communities and bring something of value to those who need it more now than maybe ever before. At least I hope it works that way: running is, after all is said and done, just running but the values one brings to it and the lessons one learns can last a lifetime and make the world a better place. No?

Thanks, Michael, for reminding me of the importance of the values one brings to the ordinary things in life.
