Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims and Michael Zo Clark make friends with Somchai, a young bull elephant who has been returned to the wild in the Sublangka jungle, Central Thailand. Somchai is a tusk-less male, which is a recessive gene rarely seen in Asian elephants but now becoming more common as elephants are increasingly being hunted down for their ivory tusks throughout Asia and Africa.
Somchai is one of the elephants in Sims and Clark’s 30-minute film “Return to the Forest” which premieres on www.worldelephantday.org August 12, 2012, which is the first World Elephant Day.
The film is narrated by actor William Shatner.
