Fewer strokes is better in Open-Impressionism. If a tree can be painted in five strokes instead of thirty, a feeling of freshness and spontaneity is communicated in the abstraction of a tree to its basic form and movement.
A Deeper Meaning of Permanance in Art
When a similarity between my work and computer animation or claymation is mentioned, I take it as a compliment because the 3D into 2D illusion of light and shadow is what sophisticated computer programs excel at, and claymation uses real forms under actual light.

A gifted artist from early childhood, Ryan attended The Ringling College of Art and Design and Paier College of Art. Communicating Happiness Through Art
I am fascinated by the endless combinations and effects achieved by emphasizing and focusing on certain elements and principles of art and design. My art has become a metaphor of my own life’s journey exhilarating, unpredictable, and joyful -and it is my desire to share this experience with my viewer.

Observation is the First Step to Preservation
In Oman, my sketchbook and paints are constantly in use as I try to capture the stark beauty around me. However, in this barren land it is rare to see much wildlife. Most of Arabia’s wildlife is endangered, especially mammals like Leopard, Oryx and Wolf.
Man Wearing Still Life
By the time I was four years old I would frequently go a.w.o.l. to explore Fraser Street. Familiar landmarks were Honest Nat’s department store (they had a radio jingle then) and the enormously tall sign with gigantic letters in front of the Fraser movie house.
Art Inspired by Africa & Conservation
Field sketching in Africa is my life-drawing class, a speed-sketching session in which I have no control over when my subject appears, what it will do or how long it will stay. In contrast, my studio paintings are all about creative control – of subject, composition and color.
What’s in the Future for the Orangutans?
“I don’t necessarily do things “by the book.” I trust my instincts and let my drawing take form one pencil stroke at a time. It leads to a state of stillness where time appears to stand still. I feel connected to my subject.’ – Geraldine Simmons
