Looking beyond your four walls you gaze upon the woods. The Path is waiting for your journey. This painting gives the viewer a feeling of inner peace and tranquility.
This painting was a journey for me to start and see my own path. Adjusting where I needed to personally
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.” Robert Frost.
Beyond the different textures of this painting the viewer eyes fall upon the owl. With an organic feel and abstract quality, the owl also offers inspiration, guidance and the magic of life and freedom. Balanced by the wisdom of time and comfort of home.
This was a spot I love, as seen from the cockpit of my kayak. Two of my favourite places. I connect to this place and wanted to portray that love and connection in the painting. It was sold 1/2 hr after sharing. It told me I was on the right track with my new style and subject matter. Don’t ever think for a minute your emotion when painting does not show on the canvas to people.

Catherine Taylor-Sim Artist Bio
I have been drawing and painting since I was a child. I remember a neighbour handing me a sketch book and parking me under a tree, and telling me I had a gift.
I have always been “into” art for as long as I can remember. I was always encouraged to pursue my love of representing what and how I saw the world and everything in it.
I only took one year of art in high school. I took it back up after graduation when my parents put me back on the “art” track.
Most advice I can give anyone is “do what you love and you will love what you do” makes your job a whole lot nicer to get up to each day. 😉
I finished college with a fine art diploma and half way through picked up some graphic design courses (I felt I needed a backup) to actually survive and make a living.
After graduation I started working with a design firm in kitchens and home renovations.
I then went on to the printing industry where I have remained ever since. I kept up with my art mostly with Pet Portraits which I had as a business for awhile. I decided about 2011 to give up the pet portraits and expand in my own painting journey.
I joined a local art group and the paintings since are what followed ….I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed the creation. The journey is always the best part and I hope to be on it for the rest of my life 🙂
“Everyone has the ability to create art. Art is personal expression, it can take you on a journey or give you joy. Art is your voice, it is music and poetry, all mixed in the paint and laid upon the canvas.” Catherine Taylor-Sim
