They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks… not true. Especially us, especially me. So willing to grow, move on, be a better man… son, father, and husband. Life sucks, for the most part. But does it really? Sometimes I think it’s all perception and training.
I mean training because we need to condition ourselves to adapt. I know I do. Evolution. Need to evolve. Read situations, past or present, and adjust accordingly. It’s hard sometimes, I know. I struggle most of the time.
Also can’t fall into past habits and views on things. Perception. Our old habits just keep us stagnant and block progress. Opening our eyes and minds, willing to change our perspective needs to be done. But this old dog never learns.
What are the alternatives here? Continue to wallow in mediocrity, always going around and around in a circle, repeating old habits and ways of thinking? No. Can’t do it. Not anymore. I think I’ve personally come a long way.
I’m not perfect, and I am a work in progress, but life is good. The realization of my abuse was the first step. Finding and asking for help was also a step towards the right direction. I would also say that a lot of my old way of thinking, views, etc has changed. Could be me getting older, or maybe a combination.
Old ways creep in from time to time, but got to keep going. Old dog, old tricks has got to go. Learning the new tricks can be challenging, but once you get it, second nature… Time for the old dog to keep on.
And so should you.

“Lie down, see through
Spirits fool you
Slip right through your hands
Old tricks turn you
It’s a little bit make-believe
A little bit true”
