A contest
between science and faith
all of us waiting in our forced
quiet, wondering which will come first
the vaccine or
God, which one,
which will show up
and tell us that this
will come to an end
as quickly as it began
In self-quarantine
many pray silently for family
and for friends, asking
over and over again that they be protected
but which will come first
science or faith
and people fight for their right to believe that faith will,
being dragged away in defiance to science
And watching we can only hope that their
faith will be strong when
science is failing us, but we keep
the candle flame going at night
when the silence of the day meets
our dreams, many dreaming deeper now
many feeling the universal vibration of
waiting for the answer to which will come first
science or faith
vaccine or God
But in the middle of the pause, we sing
we dance, we clap, we shout in joy
from balconies that God’s going to show up
and in the meantime while we wait we will
pause in the quiet and observe the empty streets
from windows adorned with rainbows
