I created the safari fashionistas because I wanted to try something different and add animals to my repertoire. Working with textures and natural colors was really a fun wind-down from my typical use of funky colors in my other drawings.
I produced the illustrations digitally using the Sketchbook Pro software. I always start out with an intentional messy sketch to get all of my ideas down on the canvas. I then begin to build on adding a base and layer on colors and details. The trilogy are mixed media pieces, so I used a plethora of digital art tools.
The trilogy hold a great deal of importance to me. The drawings are my first trilogy as well as a successful practice illustrating not just animals, but anthropomorphic animals.
By the way, the clothing on the animal models are all made of vegan material, and no animals were harmed in the making of them! 🙂
