“I’ve always had a creative side, but didn’t fully “tap into it” until my corporate career ended. Now I’m having fun with my “Make Your Walls Laugh” series of whimsical paintings that often tell a story.
I am inspired by my surroundings, people, situations – anything can be a painting! Our dog, Archie, looking up a tree at a chipmunk became two paintings from both perspectives. “I Know You’re Up There” and “I Know You’re Down There”.
My “Camou Moose” painting depicts a moose in camouflage. The moose can see the hunters in their bright orange vests, but the hunters (with no guns in the painting) can’t see the moose! The moose wins! I am an animal enthusiast.
“Pricilla’s Preposterous Puppy Parade” was inspired by a woman I saw at an art show one stifling hot summer’s day. She was walking three hairless dogs, all dressed in colourful, floral Hawaiian shirts – I had to paint that!!!
Happy times, fun places. I choose to “Make Your Walls Laugh” and paint the bright side of today’s world.”

Catherine Shane Artist Bio
I changed my career focus from the corporate world and pursued my artistic passion to embark on my “Make Your Walls Laugh” series of imaginative, whimsical and abstract acrylic paintings, consisting of vibrant palettes and occasional humour in paintings that often tell a story. I am inspired by my surroundings and travels. People, activities and situations that I see often appear in my paintings. My latest works focus on traditional Canadian themes; hockey, summer cottage activities, winter sports and Canadian wildlife.
My work has been accepted into many juried shows and I have exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. I am a self-taught artist. I have also studied with many artist mentors and have taken various courses at Sheridan College, the Oakville Art Society and the Neilson Park Creative Centre. My work can be found in private collections across North America and Europe
My work is featured as an “Artist to Collect” in the Summer 2013 issue of Arabella Magazine, a Canadian Art, Architecture and Design Magazine.
I am an elected member of The Colour and Form Society, an Ontario based professional artist association.
