From as far back as I can remember I have been an intensely curious being. Full of questions, not of the sort most often answered in elementary school, nor within my family dynamics . As a child I spent as much time as I could playing outside. Seeking answers in nature and wondering what is beyond the physical. Passionately listening, observing and questioning this “reality” and seeing art in everything. I felt it in everything.
Life is art and curiosity often finds me looking deeper, shifting the mundane and lifting the veils to expose the incredible intense creativity that encompasses all. It seems so incredibly obvious once I am present… but often with many it gets pushed behind to the background as most of us were taught to look at life through just a few lenses.
Life can be seen or felt as abundantly flowing where anything is possible. Yet at the same time can feel stagnant, confusing and dark. This incredible planet is so diverse. The universe we are in is constantly changing and expanding as is my understanding and connection within it. It is not static nor am I…as an artist my goal is to reflect that as much as I can…to let the moment come through …as a soul needing to express and share my experience I am immensely grateful for this opportunity life has given me to paint…all moments of my life transform into a dance that continuously flows into my paintings.
Painting allows me to communicate fluently with an array of material options. My passion is to intuitively discover as much as I can of the infinite ways to express visually. In my studio, I slip into a zone where time seems to slow down or possibly no longer exists and the moment dictates the outcome. My work reflects my need for exploration and to hopefully spread some more joy and light into our world. I have the most amazing people collecting my work and enthusiastically encouraging my growth. It seems to dilute the essence of sincerity to put words to the depth of gratitude I feel to have met so many wonderful people who have supported my art since I emerged as a painter 4 years ago.
Currently, I primarily use wood panels to paint on. They fulfil the freedom I have sought since I was young…wood is super durable and allows for many types of explorations, whether using a blow torch to burn an image or using a router or dremel to carve images…or and applying thin or thick paint with various putty knife or brushes. What you will see here is my journey as an artist. My self expression that is moving and flowing all the time. I would not be happy creating the same thing over and over again. I enjoy going into the unknown, to be challenged, to find opportunities…which is why my work has such a wide variety of expression. My job is to show up and my goal is to put my best into what I do and offer it to the world… to continue to be inspired by a full life and hopefully offer encouragement for others to find their unique voice and either let it out with a whisper or a roar.
Here are a few paintings that were inspired from spending 2 amazing months feeling, observing, smelling, tasting, experiencing Bali, Indonesia. The new Mountain Series and a few more explorations are currently amongst 3 solo exhibitions that are showing in Toronto, Canada during the months of September-November 2014…more information can be found at www.bridgetgriggsart.com/shows.

Bridget Griggs Artist Bio

Photographer George Whiteside
Bridget is a vibrant emerging abstract artist…her paintings reveal a wide range of interests and exploration. They are bold and playful, experimental, colorful and spontaneous much like Bridget. Possibly her greatest influence comes from having two sons that are seventeen years apart in age and being immersed in all that life offers.
Learning and exploring in what she calls, ” The best school ever. Life is art. Art is life. ART is even in the word Earth and heart. Also look what happens when you take the H from Earth and move it to the front and you have Heart! It’s right there in front of us and I feel it’s all connected. Which is why we are so drawn to art in so many forms”
Bridget is based in Toronto in the Roncesvalles Village area. A progressively thriving neighborhood. Located in one of the few independent artist warehouse spaces left in Toronto. She creates her work in her studio at 251 Sorauren Ave.
“My goal is to contribute as much good energy into this world as I possibly can…to continue to be inspired by life and hopefully to inspire. My job is to show up, stay open to the moment and to my heart…I LOVE what I do and I am grateful to have the opportunity to express myself as an artist!” – Bridget Griggs, Canadian Abstract Artist
“Life IS Art. Nothing in this universe is static. As an artist my goal is to represent life as I am experiencing it..exploring a fraction of the infinite ways to express visually with an immense curiosity. I love the opportunity I have be given to be alive and to be creative!” – Bridget Griggs, Canadian Abstract Artist
