Linda Darby creates colourful, contemporary paintings. These geometrical abstractions, rather than representing, can evoke a range of meanings and associations. Her canvases sing with vibrant multicoloured tones of swirling paint, flowing jewel tones, glazes and rich textured patterns. For Linda, painting is about the relationship between image, memory and place. The shapes and titles allude to port cities, mill, factory, and company towns. Her cityscapes speak about the intrusiveness of the city on the natural environment.
There is also the joy of living in the city, in particular, Victoria., Canada. This city is blessed with abundant social and cultural amenities, visually pleasant and surrounded by ocean and wilderness. Her cityscapes portray cities with individuality, depicting places to visit in imagination, accompanied by the harmonies and discords of urban life, that grant a city spirit, life, imperfection and a playful, fanciful beauty.
