Portugal holds a warm place in my heart and I have returned 6 times, escaping our cold winters. This painting depicts the boats that would ply the Duoro River bringing back caskets of wine to Porto for storage and aging. This practice ceased about 60 years ago.

Since childhood I have always been fascinated by reflective light. By holding a buttercup under your chin, if your chin looked yellow, it meant you liked butter. I couldn’t resist the many areas of reflective light in this painting.

There was no doubt that I wanted to portray my 2 Golden Doodle “grand-dogs”. Colored pencil is a wonderful medium for translating the detail and directions of a dog’s coat. Nigel has a goofy character but is really very intelligent.

Wendy has travelled extensively and considers her experiences to other countries such as the American Southwest, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Europe as being instrumental in her development as an artist.
As an international portraitist, she has painted hundreds of commissions for the military, institutions and private clients including dog owners. Wendy is a Premier Pastelist, awarded by the Pastel Society of Canada. She also is very comfortable working in oils, acrylics, water colour, pen and ink and mixed media.
Being a military artist, her work is represented in the permanent collection of the Canadian War Museum. Her work can be seen in many public and private collections throughout Canada, the USA, Australia and England.
