I’d spotted the broad striped sofa just off of Oak Bay Ave. while driving home the night before. Returning early the next morning, I was pleased to find it still there. Then adding to my delight, along came Carl and Daisy, two amazing British Bulldogs out for their morning walk with Joanne. The combination was perfect! I was so excited after the shoot, I forgot where I’d parked my car.
My husband and I were heading to the Parsonage Cafe for a latte when I spotted a beige recliner on the opposite sidewalk, in front of the colourful mural. We went in, ordered our coffees and took a window seat. Not long afterward Sedona, an Australian Shepherd in the company of a young man, happened by. Camera in hand, I abandoned my coffee and my partner and caught up with my subject and companion. He kindly agreed to a shoot, but not before asking if I thought the chair might have fleas.
I walk through Beacon Hill Park to get to the beach most mornings with Sophie our dog. It was 7:30 AM and there in front of us in the tall grass was a large red velvet sofa! The light was magical and the trees were full of sound, catching Sophie’s attention.

Diana Durrand Artist Bio
Art critique Liz Gilbert wrote, “Diana is an amiable artist with an infectious wit, who elevates everyday experience and domestic objects to benignly humorous levels.”
In my work I have drawn inspiration from the compassionate spirit expressed in simple things, in unexpected ways. I create from my own life experiences, interpreting and transforming ideas into visual form. The mediums may vary but the essence and clarity surfacing remain constant.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria I have been working in acrylics, graphite, watercolours, pastels, liquid plastic and found objects of all sorts.
My work is in the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canada Council Art Bank. I have exhibited in Canada Place Expo 86; Bau-xi Gallery, Vancouver; Open Space, Victoria; Del Bello Gallery, Toronto; Transportal Exhibit, Berlin Germany; Burnaby Art Gallery; Surrey Art Gallery; Fort Gallery, Fort Langley; Art Gallery of Greater Victoria; Presentation House, Vancouver; Prague Museum of Agriculture; Science Centre, Ottawa; Michigan State University and various solo and group shows locally and nationally.
I offer workshops on the techniques of hand colouring photographs with chalk pastel.

Love your photographs, it always amazes me to see a photographers work and how they came up with the idea to take those particular photos.
