With the economy going through some major upheavals, many folks have found themselves without a job and scrambling to find ways to hold onto their homes. For many of them, the last time they went on a job hunt, social media didn’t exist. Having some kind of web profile was not part of the strategy. Now, as these good folks look for work, some of them with tremendous experience and expertise in their field of work, they are running up against tough competition and having to learn a whole new way to market themselves.
A few years ago, Fifth Third Bank decided to test a reemployment service for its mortgage customers experiencing unemployment. The goal was to help them keep their homes. They are the first bank to do this. Their program included one-on-one coaching on topics from career direction to social media interviewing, online job search training software, and weekly job search webinars.
After 6 months, nearly 40% were fully reemployed and as a result, Fifth Third Bank incorporated the program into the way they do business. They now offer a free, online Job Seeker’s Toolkit to all of their customers.
What a great idea! I hope other banks and other corporations will follow what Fifth Third Bank has done.
The following video is about Katrina Holmes, a healthcare management professional. Katrina, describes how Fifth Third Bank is helping her stay in her home after a job loss and offers her positive perspective on a difficult situation.
Good luck Katrina … and well done Fifth Third Bank!
