The fishing shed is a prominent fixture in most of my work and is a structure that I have become quite fond of. To me it embodies a strength and perseverance matched only by the people who call this land home.
My work is never an exact replica of a particular time or place, rather a mix of times and places, set in a dream with a nod to the Newfoundlander’s sense of humour.

Adam Young Artist Bio
I am a graduate of Mount Allison University’s Fine Arts Program where I focused on painting and drawing. After graduating in 2003, I freelanced as an illustrator for newspapers across Canada.
I graduated from Crandall University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Education and have been teaching art for the past 4 years. My family and I moved to Fogo Island in 2010 where my fiancé was born.
Since then I have been teaching at the school on Fogo Island and in my spare time painting out of my studio in Shoal Bay. My work is inspired by the landscape, architecture and people of Fogo Island.

Adam is such an amazing artist!!
Love all of Adam’s work!
Appreciate and admire Young’s ability to personify fishing stages and row houses and evoke emotion. Love the colour whether it’s festve sheds in community or ancient stages slipping down to the sea.
