Sidney BC , May 18th, 1980
We were asleep … then the dog whined, barked, moved restlessly … the cat meowed … we woke …
BOOM …
We heard it … we felt it … the windows shook … the whole house shook …
We went back to sleep …
Later, we learned what happened.
Mount St. Helens had erupted …
An entire landscape had changed forever.
They say it was the atmospheric conditions that allowed us to hear it … to feel it.
I will never forget that day!
Do you remember it? Where were you when it happened? Did you feel it too?

Scan the clouds that are portrayed and find and see the formed faces…there are many. Ones imagination goes crazy .
Yes , I remember the eruption and the sorrow we felt for those who may have died right then and there and the thankfulness that we were safe at that time.
Thank you for the picture Gil which cautions us to never take things for granted.
We were in Saanich; I’m sure I heard it — but the weirdest thing was the ash that had settled on the car the next morning. My father carefully brushed some into a small jar and that sat on our mantle for many years.
Hey Cheryl,
Thanks for the comment!
I remember some folks saying they had ash. We never saw any in Sidney where we were.
Hi to Mike from me!
Cheers,
Gil
