What do I do when I have writer’s block, I:
- Sit at my computer
- Check Facebook statuses for inspiration; anything to stir my mind
- Decide that my oven can’t go another minute being dirty
- Clean my oven
- Sit at my computer and check my finances
- Depressed because the bills still keep rolling in
- Decide that the laundry needs to be folded/the plants need to be watered/the dog needs to be bathed/my nails need to be painted
- Attack whatever task seems like something I might actually be able to accomplish rather than face the overwhelming obstacle of writing from my bare mind
- Call my girlfriend and gossip about nothing
- That night, lie awake infuriated at myself for having wasted so much time over the past day/month
- Next morning, sit at my computer
- Decide that the time I’ve wasted doesn’t matter at all since I have nothing too poignant or penetrating to offer my readers
- Get up from my desk. Check the condition of my closets
- Next morning, sit at my computer. Write something and hope for the best, expect the worst.

Hi Phyllis!
.
This gave me a chuckle. What? Have you been you inside my head? I can so relate to this.
Not feeling like this currently and I’m so grateful. When I do, however, I tell myself that there’s a master plan and that life is arranging itself in a way that will produce a better story to write. When I can get myself to buy into that story, I feel less frustrated. 🙂
Peace & Love,
Kim

I loved this piece as well, so true! I often wonder if I will ever write anything again frankly! It’s nice to know I am not alone! Thanks for sharing this!

Been there, done that! I can really sympathize, Phyllis. Writer’s block – for any of us who love to write – is a VERY frustrating place to be! Thanks for writing this!
A shoutout to Houston from Fort Worth. Lived in West U for about 20 years, have a lot of fond memories of the city. 🙂
