A path leads somewhere. Sometimes we think it leads nowhere but wherever that is it is someplace else. In other words, follow the steps down, or climb them — either way a grey sky awaits. Down takes you to the water, to the flower beds just out of sight, to a glimpse of an odd yellow and blue water trampoline that suggests a blown-up tennis racquet. The boat gives evidence of use, of movement, but no indication of intention or success. Could be fish, maybe not. The grey behind and above the tree lines says storm so maybe the boat is coming in. Turn around and walk back up the stairs, leave the reeds behind. More answers than questions going that way i.e. When do we eat? 7:30.
The locals tell you to watch the reeds…everything one needs to know about what is and what is about to be can be seen if one looks closely, quiets the mind and lets the language of the waters speak to your heart…Minnesota morning, northeast wind, rain comin’ in.
Sunrise on the northern lakes, daylight about to break…the world oddly grey and yellow, fires waiting to consume the mist, the day coming in with a promise of light and fair winds. Maybe the Walleye are biting, maybe the bass will rise. Today could be the day that the summer trip of 2010 goes big, becomes good eating and better memory.

Finally! I’ve been WAITING for you to put the “meditations” and the “photography” together. Nicely done.

I love your image of the reeds! It is SO meditative. it reminds me of a fire that I could gaze into forever.

Hey Michael – I always check to see what you’re posting. The Minnesota series is stunning. I love format you’re developing of image/meditation text. It suits a “travelling man.”
