I was mindlessly drying my hair, when to my utter amazement, my hair dryer exploded in my hand. Well, technically, it didn’t explode…it merely started crackling and shooting eight inch flames from the back of it. My immediate reaction was to drop it in the sink (which fortunately happened to be empty) and watch its self-destruction before it occurred to me to yank the plug out from the wall socket.
Not being mechanically inclined, I was clueless as to what had happened to my hair dryer. One thing was clear though, even to me — I was going to need a new one. Ideally, I would spend a few minutes online to determine which dryer would be the best value for me. Note that I used the word “ideally”. It’s much more my style to just purchase whichever one they happen to be carrying at our Costco.
As I was pulling my brand new Costco hair dryer out of its packaging, I started reading the outside of the box. My jaw dropped as I read about all the advances that had been made in hair dryer technology. My first clue that something was different was that the hair dryer I thought I had purchased was actually a “ceramic styler”.
This new hair dryer…er…styler…was about to change my life. According to the carton my hair was going to be smooth, silky, shiny, frizz-free and very manageable. I realized that I had unknowingly bought myself a box of magic!
I quickly washed my hair and gave the woman that I was one last look before I started to dry it. As the warm air blew against my limp brown locks I started to daydream about all the ways in which my life was about to change. The world would be so in awe of my thick chestnut tresses that nobody would notice the lumps and bumps that come with being a certain age. All of humanity would gather around to hear my wonderful words of wisdom. I only hoped that I would be able to handle the fame and fortune that good hair brought.
My hair was finally dry and the moment had arrived to see the new me. I prepared myself to see this spectacular woman in the mirror. Slowly I looked at my reflection and to my amusement saw myself…the same old self that was always looking back at me.
At least my hair was dry…
