The 270 passengers on our ship, Aegean Odyssey, were among the first in many years to be welcomed to Burma (also known as Myanmar), now that the military/civilian regime has finally opened itself to democratic reforms. Part of that openness is the realization that tourists bring dollars and should be encouraged to visit.
Paris to Provence on the Rhone
We’ve always wanted to experience the culture and cuisine of Southern France and friends recommended a river cruise with Tauck, a touring company that’s been in business since 1925. The “French Waterways and Vineyards” itinerary along the Rhone sounded ideal.
Paradise Island, Bahamas. Well Named.
The Atlantis Resort and Water Park on Paradise Island is the biggest draw in the Bahamas. The cuisine is outstanding, but pricey!

There are plenty of them throughout the city but we loved the small shops and bustling local malls, many of them pedestrian-only and running for blocks. The ubiquitous 100 yen shops, similar to our dollar stores, are terrific places for souvenirs and unique sweets and biscuits (ideal treats for folks back home).
South Texas
South Texas gives Florida a serious challenge. Summer, when Canadians usually stay near home, is high season in south Texas. So the rest of year iis off-season with a sub-tropical climate and amazing prices for food, accommodation and attractions. Plus, the beaches on the outer islands of the Texas coast are extraordinary.
