New York’s Times Square has been painted over by a glib facade that denies the possibility of desire in a part of the city once synonymous with sin, but the people who linger there now suggest another layer of meaning beneath the glitter of the video screens, another world waiting at the crossroads.
A Settler’s Story
Built in 1894 to replace a home that suddenly burnt to the ground one night, Elkington House at Oak Park is one of Cowichan Valley’s best kept secrets. It’s also one of our most beloved treasures.
A Passionate West Coast Landscape Artist
My desire is to create paintings that have many focal points. Colours, shapes and patterns that are a feast for the eyes and keep one captivated for long periods of time discovering and re-discovering subtle nuances in the rhythm of the piece.
Rob Roy Meets James Burden
Here a desperate combat ensued with both men slightly wounded but neither gaining the advantage until Burden’s sword snapped off at the hilt. The Laird of Feddal “expecting to be instantly stabbed to the heart, sprang back and bared his chest to his foe.”
The Quest
The Poets – Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Adrianne Rich – sat in the poet’s chair and spoke their poems and rhymed and sang their poems to men and women who clapped or snapped, who thanked the poet for the words.

Every summer when I was a child was spent with my grandparents in Qualicum Beach, a small, quaint town on the East Coast of Vancouver Island in Canada. Their magical log home, missing square corners and fancy furnishings, was named ‘The Buss Stop’ …by me. This is why.
A Beer Museum in Munich: Who knew
While several million people a year eagerly participate in Munich’s annual Oktoberfest very few know of the city’s museum dedicated to everything beer. At the Bier & Oktoberfest Museum part of your history lesson is to sample a variety of delicious, complex beers (history classes back home were never this much fun).
MALTESTE – In Search of the Sublime
“My work gives me a privileged view of the beauty that surrounds us. My photographs hopefully give an eloquent example of this wealth that we could collectively lose by negligence or lack of concrete action faced with uncontrolled exploitation. We must take seriously what’s at stake for the planet.”
What is Open-Impressionism?
Fewer strokes is better in Open-Impressionism. If a tree can be painted in five strokes instead of thirty, a feeling of freshness and spontaneity is communicated in the abstraction of a tree to its basic form and movement.
