Rodney Bay, St. Lucia
This day
is like any other
birds
at the feeder
clear
bright blue sky
but
now
unexpected
there is a weight
a mental haze
a physical heaviness
that’s becoming
a new constant
a new truth
a new measure
to our days
for now
change
an evolving change
uncertainty
has been forced
upon us
exploding exponentially
The Virus
has entered
our routines
patterns crumble
shifting daily lives
changed forever
not knowing
with confidence
what tomorrow
the future
might deliver
to our door
as
the last people
pull luggage
through the gate
all bets
are off
with hope
a distant third

Guest Author Bio
Richard Peppinck
Richard is presently living in St. Lucia part of the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean. He has been drawn to poetry and watercolour painting as forms of personal reflection over the last few years. He started to write while sitting in coffee shops in Kingston, Jamaica. In the poems he aspires to create an improvised cadence and measure similar to ones found in jazz music. He also attempts to reveal his thoughts as conversations with friends. They become observations of a moment trying to touch the readers heart.
