She was beautiful
before the storm took from her
not on one night
but on many nights
rough, merciless, unending
until she was abandoned
there on the shore
intact, yet not the same
not anywhere near the same
a shell
there to tell the story
but quiet now
empty
The storm had passed
and now the task of rebuilding would begin
piece by precious piece
she took shape again
becoming the treasure she once was
She was weathered, but steady
untested, yet trustworthy
she was ready now
more ready than before the storm
she was what she was, now
because of the storm
somehow stronger
somehow more beautiful
now longing, yearning
for the sea
