They, the Rockies, simply are grand and eye catching at anytime of year. Yet still, the Rockies take on a different “look and feel” come winter. Once the snow starts and they move from being snow capped into adorned with snow –a change comes on. The smooth slopes and the curves all are accentuated by the snow – as is the cragginess, the ruggedness, and the sheer aura of their presence. Here in Banff National Park, the snows have come and the landscape has a new look and feel.
I liken it to a lady in a gown at the ball – without the necklace, the hair style and the accessories the gown has less “pop”. While still captivating; it takes the interplay of these other things to make the whole gown, and with it – the lady shine. And so it is with the Rockies around Banff – the snow, the drifts, the ice and the glimmer and twinkle – these are the Necklace, the hair style and the accessories that work together to make the whole mountain pop. As a landscape photographer, I hope to capture some of these unique scenes and record the beauty of the “Lady at the Ball” in photo prints!
They are dressed up in all their glory and the eye gets drawn in and one wonders – how does the snow stick, where is the shine coming from, how can it look so smooth and yet be “Rocky“.
It is the wonder of all mountains and right now in Banff, the Rockies are dressed up for the Ball!

* Being in the midst of this place I get to capture the incredible mixture of light and natural environment subject matter that Banf National Park provides. I readily admit: I am spoiled. With Banff National Park as my back yard, I just leave my house and walk, ski or ride to the wilderness in minutes! The wonders of this place, from a simple day’s walk to extended trips, provide a Landscape Fine Art Photographer a neverending, always intriguing and deeply engaging array of subject matter: light, mood and moments to create, then express “that moment captured from an infinity of other possible sights”.
