Many people tell me my paintings make them feel happy, and I am so grateful to hear that as that is my whole purpose of painting—to communicate with people through my art. I paint many road paintings as they are a metaphor for life and our journey. My message is to enjoy the journey rather than worrying ourselves about the destination.
I paint many road paintings as they are a metaphor for life and our journey. My message is to enjoy the journey rather than worrying ourselves about the destination. The story of Harold Wilson’s Truck is based on a song by Fred Eaglesmith-a Canadian folksinger who I first discovered on CBC. As I was doing my rural road painting I was listening to a CD about Harold Wilson, a farmer who was down on his luck , and feeling sorry about him and his story, I decided that maybe a new red truck would lift his spirits, and that is when I added it to my usual road painting, taking it in a new direction.
My painting Harold Wilson’s Truck was recently selected by Ducks Unlimited for their 2014 Portfolio. This is quite an accomplishment for me, as I never expected such an honour as my paintings are bold, colourful, and always have a human interest story .
The painting Georgian Bay Afternoon was inspired by a summer afternoon’s drive to the cottage. I looked at the cows and they seemed to be welcoming me to enjoy the lazy hazy days of summer.
Havana Harbour was inspired by a religious, cultural, art trip that I took to Cuba in late November 2013. Looking out on the harbour from my hotel in Cienfuegos, I was moved by the quiet gentle breeze and the rocking of the boats giving a sense of peace and tranquillity.
Oprah says that we all need to play more and I agree–its so important to keep fun and a sense of joy and gratitude in our lives even though it can be difficult to do at times.
