I started doing photography for two reasons. The first is I have worked a late shift in this city for over 25 years and I see a Victoria that most people do not get to see. When I’m on the streets of Victoria in the early morning after all of the bars and the restaurants have closed and the city is deserted, the world of Victoria is a much different place. It was my hope that I could show through photography, a glimpse of what a tranquil and “magical” place Victoria is at this hour.
Secondly, it was also my dream that by seeing my photographs people would be more motivated to go out and see Victoria ( or their own city) for themselves, because no photograph can replace the real thing. When you have lived here for a long time it’s easy to grow complacent and forget what an incredible paradise we live in. Remember people travel from all over the world to come and see what we get to see every day.
Mt Baker and Victoria: This photo was almost 25 years in the making. When I first saw this view from Albert Head Beach in the Metchosin, it was the late 1980’s. I first tried taking it with my 35mm camera but only had about 100 mm lens and that wasn’t strong enough. I spent about $50 on film and developing trying to get a good picture of it though. Around 2004 I got my first digital camera and attempted it again, but still the camera wasn’t good enough to get a decent picture from that distance. Finally this year on October 9th, with the right equipment and the right weather conditions I was able to finally get the picture I envisioned 25 years ago.

I truly enjoy and appreciate your photographs along with your willingness to share. I work shift work (7-1900, 1900-0700) and often see sights that are breathtaking and leave you speechless. Many of your photos capture this.
Thank you for your sharing and creativity.
