When I wake up each morning, after the sleep fades from my eyes and I’ve had my morning coffee, I reach for my camera. I’m truly lucky to say that I get to make a living doing what I love. It is a passion and an obsession.
Little Girl Rufous was shot from a camera blind in my back yard. It took two days to get some good shots. The key was to keep the camera speed down so I could get the wing movement .
I love to shoot swans in the Comox Valley. Having a good lens helps and its all about the right back ground. And the right light.
Vancouver island Black bears are so much fun to shoot as they never do what you want them to do, I have to take thousands of shots to get one good one .

Kirk Friederich Photographer Bio
Kirk’s love of photography has been growing for years, at times growing more than he wanted. Kirk started shooting weddings in the early ’80s and joined the digital revolution back in 2001. By 2006 his photography had become more than a full-time job. He moved to the Comox Valley from North Vancouver three years ago.
“I’ve been into photography for a long time and I’m into it because it’s not easy,” he says. “If it was easy I probably wouldn’t be doing it. It challenges my brain and that’s probably what I like the most about it. I also get to make a living out of it.”
