Today let’s talk about frozen ego.
What the heck is that?
A therapist once told me that as a result of a traumatic incident, your ego might freeze at the age you were when the traumatic event happened. It really helped me understand my world – because I was operating as a terrified 14 year old boy much of the time, and now I understood why. I was that age when my Dad’s drinking began to affect me. He attacked my natural efforts to grow as a person, and it was so shocking that I think it just locked me into that moment. He called me worthless, and I believed him. In my ‘30s, I had to learn how to begin growing up, which had gotten interrupted at age 14. It led to a lot of growth, and a tremendous sense of freedom.
Have you ever experienced feeling like that terrified child?
