Today let’s talk about people pleasing.
Have you ever found yourself doing things you didn’t want to do, just so others would like you?
That was something I learned when I was young. Once, when I was 14, I went deer hunting, sitting in the back of a pickup in snowy weather with two other sons, a trio of Dads drinking whiskey in the cab of the truck. It all felt very unsafe, but I thought I had to go along because that’s what men do. I didn’t want to say no and risk my Dad’s disapproval or anger. As an adult I had to spend a lot of time unlearning that behavior so that I could be true to myself, and only do things that felt right for me, regardless of who might not like it. But boy, did it give me a lot of freedom!
Have you ever found yourself doing unpleasant things just to please others?
