On vacation in Trinidad, Glenn Slavens comes across an amazing dog who walks using only her two front legs.

We were driving out to the far reaches of the island of Trinidad one day, looking to discover new ground, when all of a sudden as we passed a Catholic School and we spotted this dog, moving down the road. I say “moving” because she didn’t seem to be walking as a normal dog would walk. Upon further inspection, I saw dog was walking but on her front two legs, thrusting herself forward, quickly bringing her two hind legs ahead to catch herself, and continuing the process.
I think she must have been hit by a car at some point and chose to not let that impede her. Survival instincts kicked into overdrive.
Trinidad is full of an amazing amount of stray dogs. They are known quite affectionately as “pothounds”. I think they get this name from people feeding them the leftovers from the bottom of the pots. They are everywhere and I became obsessed with taking pictures of as many pothounds as I could. I saw many varieties, some healthier than others. I wish I could keep them all.
This particular dog looked to be one of the local pothounds, but she was in better health than some of the other ones that were hanging around. She probably didn’t have to beg too hard.

That dog has neosporosis (caused by Neospora caninum). It’s an infectious disease. Still impressive, though.
What an amazing dog! I see pothounds all the time, since I live in Grenada. The dogs are called pothounds because they drink water out of all the potholes in the roads.
Awesome and Inspiring. We can learn a lot from dogs. Willpower and the ability to still go one after an injury, just take courage and creativity. Thanks for this. Great capture.
