Today let’s talk about learning to feel.
Has it ever seemed like you are numb to the events in your world?
It has felt that way for me. When I was 8 my grandfather died, and the family acted as if nothing happened, and I felt no sadness or emotions about it. I had learned to stuff my feelings, and carried that into my adult life. I had to learn how to feel again – and sometimes a present day event would bring up feelings from something I had never felt in my childhood. I could sometimes access those feelings by watching a movie – such as the time I watched The Color Purple and felt my tears for the first time since I was very young. Although that was bewildering, I had to let it be OK and unburden a lot of old, bottled up emotions to stay more in the present moment.
Have you ever had trouble releasing your feelings?
