Today let’s talk about fear of success.
Have you ever found yourself more comfortable if things didn’t work out, than if you succeeded?
I was once told that it looked like I was not afraid of failure, but afraid of success. The statement rang true. Once during an interview, a sales manager told me I had a strong success pattern established in my career. I wanted to grab my resume back from him and see what he was looking at. I realized later that statement frightened me, deeply, and I didn’t want to see that I had been successful. As a child, every time I succeeded, it led to some painful event that spoiled the success, so I learned to avoid that pain. I had to work hard at reprogramming those old tapes, but what a joy to no longer fear or avoid a successful outcome.
Have you ever experienced a fear of succeeding?
