Today let’s talk about boundaries.
Have you ever felt like people were crowding you, and you didn’t know exactly how it happened, or what to do about it?
I’ve always loved that scene in the movie Dirty Dancing where Patrick Swayze is trying to teach Jennifer Gray to dance. She keeps stepping on his toes, so finally, in frustration, he swings his arm in an arc around himself, and then a similar arc around her. He says, “This is my space, and that’s your space. You don’t come into my space, and I don’t come into your space.” That was such a wonderful visual about setting boundaries. Growing up in an alcoholic family, I wasn’t allowed to have my own space, and didn’t know I even could. When I learned as an adult how to establish a proper space around me, I finally created some breathing room for myself.
Have you ever had trouble setting healthy boundaries?
