Terms & Conditions
We ask for a 90-day exclusive on new work submitted to us for posting. Following the 90-day “exclusive” period, your article will remain in our archives but from this point you may republish your work wherever you wish. If you do republish, we request that you include a link at the end of the article stating that it was first posted at Life As A Human.
If accepted, your work will be displayed on our home page and will then reside permanently within our archives. We will include your bio and a link to your blog provided it is not in the form of an advertorial.
Please be sure that you have also read and understood our General Submission Guidelines.
Submitting Your Work for Consideration
To submit your article to Life As A Human, please use the Guest Author Submission Form at the end of these instructions.
We will contact you at the e-mail address you provided to let you know if your article has been accepted for publication. Depending on our article queue, this could be 10 days or longer from the time of your submission.
Editing, Spelling & Grammar
Please edit and proofread your articles carefully before submitting them to us. While we do provide “copy editing,” we do not provide “content editing.” Submissions which do not read well or are full of errors will not be accepted.
Any hyperlinks you wish to be included in your article should be listed within the article next to the word or phrase to be hyper-linked. For example:
“The moons of Jupiter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter) can easily be seen through a telescope.”
We will embed the hyperlinks for you like this:
“The moons of Jupiter can easily be seen through a telescope.”
Photos And Images
We encourage you to submit photos or illustrations with your submissions. You can include 2 images. Please be sure they are original works, Creative Commons, or that you have written permission from the artist to use the works. Please provide the copyright details to us, including a link to the source, as we will be providing credits for everything we publish.
Please Note: Submissions without images will take longer to publish.
Image Sizes: Limit the image sizes to a maximum of 1500 pixels in width but try to send us images that are at least 650 pixels in width. Maximum file size of 1.5MB per image. We reserve the right to use different images.
Image Titles: If you submit images, please enter the Image Title on the submission form. This will be used for the mouse over (hover) and is also used by the search engines to better index your work.
Better yet, rename the images before uploading. For example: If the file name is DSCG1234.JPG, rename it to “A Bridge In Montreal.jpg” (that is … if it is indeed a bridge in Montreal!)
If you quote someone, give proper attribution within the article for the author and the source of the quote.
If the article has been previously published and/or is currently published elsewhere, please provide the link to the article. We will link to it in the credits section.
At the end of the form, there is a place for you to include a brief autobiography (max. 200 words). While you may wish to use a pseudonym for your own blog, we do require your actual name for correspondence and publication at Life As A Human.
Your Bio Pic
Please include a picture of yourself. Send something with a square aspect ratio remembering that this will be shown as a thumbnail. Enter the Image Title for your bio pic (this should be your name).
Your Blog or Website Link
Tell us your blog or website address and we will embed it at the end of your bio. Please use this format: http://yourblog.com (or .net or .info or whatever it is)
After Your Post Is Published
On publication, your work will be promoted through our social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit etc. It will also be syndicated through our RSS feed and included in our weekly digest email to all of our subscribers.
Promote Your Post!
- To maximize the exposure of your post, if you use any or all of the above-mentioned social media services, it’s a great idea for you to spend a few minutes promoting it.
- If you maintain your own e-mail distribution list, be sure to include it there also.
- If you have your own blog, remember to tease it there as well. A good example of this is: http://www.schmutzie.com/weblog/2010/5/14/me-at-lifeasahumancom-oh-to-be-a-drunk-methuselah.html
- Be sure to engage your readers. Doing so will increase your page views and lead to more readers. The easiest way to do this is to subscribe to the comment feed using the “You can also subscribe without commenting” link at the bottom of the comment area.
To submit your work, please use the Guest Author Submission Form
Please contact us if you have any questions at all.
