In November 2009 I was contacted by TIME magazine about acquiring a license to use one of my photographic images in their December issue. I was also in need of images for another publication so I offered to fly to Cuba to attempt to capture the essence of the Latin spirit. I arrived in Cuba in February of 2010.
In addition to fulfilling the assignment I created Cuba on Film, a book comprised of 95 full page photographs, all of which were originally shot on 35mm and medium format film..
The following photos are a sample of the spirit, soul and flow of Cuba, a culture set back in time vibrating with a heart, soul and rhythm like no other country in the world.

Paul Cooklin Photographer Bio
“In our digital world of ‘instant everything’ which is mostly mass produced, Paul Cooklin is drawn to analogue film and traditional darkroom printing. His preference for film over digital also derives from the nostalgic and timeless ‘look’ of black and white film, with it’s tonal qualities and grain. He is also drawn to the rules of the negative and the traditional printing methods which he finds more rewarding due to the hands-on approach needed to make an individual silver gelatin print.
Cooklin’s body of work consists of an eclectic collection of prints, spanning various photographic genres which have featured in numerous publications, including TIME magazine, and are represented by fine art publishers and galleries worldwide.”
