Lake Inari, Finland- This remote spot sits under the midnight sun of the Finnish sky. With just you, herds of reindeer and silence, this winter wonderland spot is the definition of serenity. This area, too, has camper-friendly rules, meaning you are free to park and camp wherever you would like.

Central Europe

Moving southward towards Germany, Austria and Czechia, the landscape turns into forest roads and fairy-tale villages, perfect for that authentic road trip feel.

Black Forest, Germany- In the large forest clearings near Triberg or Baden-Baden, you can enjoy the fresh scent of bark and pine trees and cuckoo calls. Not only are there dense, dreamlike forests, but you can also enjoy sapling meadows and half-timbered villages to explore by campervan. Enjoy the range of hikes that this region has to offer, featuring thermal baths and picturesque waterfalls.

Plitvice Region, Croatia- Dotted all over the region, hidden camper spots provide a view of the national park that most do not get to see. Hřensko in particular is a great place for campers and those travelling by van, nestled in a quiet location under the towering rock formations for an outstanding view in the morning.

If you’re after sun, seas and slow travel, the south of the continent provides coastal roads and vineyard views perfect for sunny afternoons and evenings. From Portugal to Greece, there is a vast range of locations that display all that the region has to offer, in a quieter and more relaxing way.

Alentejo Coast, Portugal- With its wild cliffs, rolling dunes and small camper-friendly areas, this area in the south coast of the country offers a range of outdoor activities from surfing to hiking along its long sandy beaches. Odeceixe is specifically known for its slower-paced life and is a lot quieter than more touristy areas such as the Algarve, allowing a more peaceful and mindful trip.

Peloponnese Peninsula, Greece- Sleep beside turquoise coves such as Voidokilia Beach and expect to wake up to scenes of rolling waves and the scent of wild thyme from the nearby bushes. Even in peak season, this era feels personal with its unhurried sense of authenticity.

Licence right- If you’re starting your journey in a van or towing equipment, ensure you have the correct licence for the area to avoid setbacks. I gained my licence from Lifft Group, but there are plenty of these companies up and down the country to ensure that you are following the laws.

Support local- Ensure that you support local industries by buying local produce such as wine and bread.
