The pineal gland, so named because its shape resembles a pine cone, sits just between the right and left hemispheres of the brain and is responsible for producing a number of neurotransmitters such as melatonin and serotonin. However, many mystics and ancient cultures have referred to the pineal gland as the “third eye.”
The pineal gland is called the third eye for good reason. Researchers have discovered that the pineal gland, like our eyes, contains photoreceptors and is even activated by the light that comes through our eyes. It responds to light by producing serotonin and to darkness by producing melatonin that helps induce sleep. Additionally, when sunlight is transmitted to the pineal gland, this sunlight can help break down some of the harmful chemicals that may encrust the pineal gland. It is the build up of these chemicals that is believed by mystics to prevent the pineal gland from functioning as it should.
How to Detoxify and Decalcify Your Pineal Gland
Your pineal gland is not protected by the blood-brain barrier, which means that it has no extra defense against toxins that may enter your bloodstream. Synthetic calcium and synthetic fluoride, in particular, seem to adversely affect the pineal gland, weakening its ability to process photons of light and produce neurotransmitters. Note that the concern is synthetic calcium and fluoride, not nutrients that naturally occur in vegetables, for example.
To begin to fully activate your third eye, then, you must first rid the pineal gland of these toxic chemicals that prevent it from functioning correctly. You can begin to do this by drinking purified water and discontinuing any vitamins, supplements, fortified foods, and toothpastes that contain synthetic fluoride and calcium.
Nutrition for Your Pineal Gland
In addition to detoxifying your pineal gland, you should consider also how to actively nourish your pineal gland with your nutritional choices. This can support the ultimate opening of your third eye.
To begin, you should be mindful of eating organic plants and animal products. Some would recommend that you pursue a vegan diet only, avoiding all animal products.
There are specific foods believed to stimulate the pineal gland. These include:
- Apple cider vinegar (unpasteurized)
- Beets
- Cacao beans
- Grass juices
- Green vegetables
- Reishi mushroom tea
- Turmeric
It is also believed that bentonite clay supplements and organic MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) powder can stimulate and nourish the pineal gland.
How to Activate Your Pineal Gland
A good place to begin in you want to work towards awakening your pineal gland is to with regular meditation. Meditation is good for both the body and the mind but also for our chakra system. Specifically, meditation allows you to experience greater states of clarity and intuition. Certainly, joining a supportive spiritual community, such as The Way International, can be helpful as well.
After practicing meditation regularly for some time, you may be ready to move towards the more advanced practice of Kundalini Yoga. Kundalini practice works to activate your chakras. Specifically, it works to awaken Kundalini energy, which rests at the base of the spine. This energy can move upwards through the spine and to the pineal gland, further opening the third eye.
Some experts believe that Ayahuasca can be used to open the third eye. Ayahuasca is made from the Ayahuasca plant native to parts of Central and South America. Ayahuasca is a powerful purgative that may cleanse the body from a variety of toxins, including those that inhibit the pineal gland. Additionally, Ayahuasca can make the chemical DMT, or di-methyl-tryptamine, bio-available, leading to a natural opening of the third eye chakra.
Regular fasting is also recommended by some as a way to awaken the pineal gland and open the third eye. Even a 24-hour fast can increase detoxification naturally and increase the production of Human Growth Hormone, which stimulates the production of new brain cells. It should be noted that while fasting, you should drink plenty of purified water.
What Are the Benefits of Opening the Third Eye through the Pineal Gland?
Having a healthy, clear third eye offers many benefits, both spiritual and practical. These include:
- Greater awareness—you will begin to understand the truth about the world around you and will realize that “you” are not your physical self.
- Greater empathy—you are likely to become increasingly empathic, not just empathetic. That is, you will be closely attuned to the emotional states and even thoughts of others.
- Greater intuition—you are likely to begin to simply know things that you have no logical way of knowing. You may know the outcome of certain events before they happen.
- More vivid dreams / lucid dreaming—because your pineal gland regulates your sleep cycle, your dream state is likely to be affected by an opening of the third eye. You may find you have dreams that are almost prophetic in nature or that give you insight.
Many mystics have sought pineal gland opening or third eye opening for centuries. There are a number of ways to get to this state, and it is certainly worth the effort. And the opening of your third eye will allow you to see the world, your place in it, and those around you with greater clarity and truth.
