On any given day
my past confronts me
each smell carries a memory
how far will it take me
Don’t have a drink
you’ll go too deep
can’t cry now
got somewhere to be
Turn that song up
the one that makes you remember
always taking you back
top down, warm nights
the one good thing you had
Keep driving, eyes on the road
I’m better than this
don’t I keep saying
gotta let it go
it’s so far away now
Look around, this is what’s real
take a breath
go outside, close your eyes
there’s that smile on your lips
pay attention…feel it…this is now

You remind us that we all have a past. Good thing this is now. Brilliantly written!
Thanks Eldon…yes, we sure do 🙂 I’m extremely grateful for the now…this poem is basically a conversation that I have with myself now and then, having to pull myself back to reality sometimes when I get too far inside my head. The end of the conversation is always the same…now is good…VERY good 🙂 Take care…
Enjoyed reading this – nicely done!
Thank you Shannon, I appreciate your comment…this is such a wonderful outlet to share one’s thoughts! 🙂
