Heather Hess remembers
I was in awe the first time I saw the lacey white feathers of this beautiful creature! I visited this gorgeous peacock for years. A couple of years ago, she damaged a foot and started to limp. She seemed very depressed. Her snowy white feathers lost their sheen and turned a yellowish color. Last summer she died – the poor thing couldn’t live without her vanity! For me this photo is bittersweet – it makes me feel sad and lonely but I am happy I still have this remembrance that I can share with others.

Thanks Steve – I loved that beautiful peacock – Beacon Hill is getting overrun with peacocks (which I love) but they are all beautifully multi-colored – not a white one left – I think an albion peacock is very rare.

Males are peacocks and females are peahens, I believe.

Peacocks are males. “She” and “her” are not correct. But what a gorgeous image and nice story.

Thanks very much – what is the proper way to address male and female peacocks? – Heather
