Okay, I am known as the Do Right Guru, but I struggle with that title because I have had my share of little white lies and they came rushing to my head after a recent trip.
Here’s what happened in just the span of a couple of hours:
First, it was a humid morning and I was checking my two bags in with the skycap and he charged me only $25, when clearly it should have been double that amount. Did he just cheat American Airlines or did I? To ease my conscience, I tipped him a $10 bill.
Then I went through security knowing full well that I had oversized containers in my check-in luggage and a lighter rolled up in my socks but declared no flammable items.
I proceeded to the gate and had an hour wait so I went to the newsstand and read an entire magazine standing up, when I should have purchased the magazine.
Once on the plane and beverages were served, I asked the flight attendant for an extra can of apple juice, which I politely put in my purse to use as a late night snack once I arrived at my destination. These (what seemingly to me are “little L”) deviations from the truth compounded by similar actions by others who do the same thing, make for a need to reexamine my part in being honest.
Do I want to be part of the problem or part of the solution? Do I want an ethics revolution to begin with me or someone else? Have you done your part?
