From being kissed on the lips by a sled dog to being romanced by her partner on an ice road, Hélèna Katz has lots of stories to share about living in Canada’s North. She was born in Montreal but found home in Fort Smith, adjacent to Wood Buffalo National Park in the Northwest Territories.


She likes to tell stories about the people and experiences that make a place special. Her work has appeared in a variety of magazines including Canadian Geographic, Canadian Living, Canada’s History Magazine, Up Here, Above & Beyond, Outdoor Canada, VIA Destinations, Up Here Business, Homemakers and More Magazine.


She is also the author of The Mad Trapper, Gang Wars and Cold Cases. Hélèna is the former national president of the Travel Media Association of Canada. She and her partner share their acreage with a llama, a herd of alpacas, two dogs and a cat. They operate the only alpaca farm in the Northwest Territories.
