Field sketching in Africa is my life-drawing class, a speed-sketching session in which I have no control over when my subject appears, what it will do or how long it will stay. In contrast, my studio paintings are all about creative control – of subject, composition and color.
What’s in the Future for the Orangutans?

Art Heals
I’d never planned on being “an artist”. Actually, that’s not entirely true. Becoming an artist was a definite career path that I’d been thinking quite deeply about… when I was about seven years old. That year I’d also decided I wanted to be an astronaut, a lion tamer and a millionaire.

We do not really pay attention. Our ancient ancestors were far better at this. In recent years we have become even less mindful of our sense of place” – Robert Bateman
