Minute to Freedom #62: Instant Intimacy

Today let’s talk about instant intimacy.

I heard a guy say one time in a men’s group that he could fall in love, become involved,
get rejected and feel sad, all while walking past a woman he didn’t know at the park.

We all laughed because we related. One of the effects of growing up in an alcoholic family was a tendency for instant intimacy – trying to become involved too quickly. For me it involved telling a woman my whole life story, on the first date. I would pour out my soul to her, not realizing how overwhelming and needy that sounded, and how it actually pushed women away. And I would wonder why the woman shyed away from a second date. I had to learn to slow down and get to know people a little bit at a time, and allow relationships to develop naturally.

Have you ever experienced instant intimacy?
