Minute to Freedom #42: Seeking Outside Help

Today let’s talk about seeking outside help.

Has it ever seemed like your problems are bigger than you can deal with on your own?

It was that way for me, so a minister at my church suggested I seek outside help. It was a great thought, but somehow in my mind, if I had to go to a therapist, it would be like the problem was bigger than I wanted to admit. But here’s the thing – the impact of growing up in an alcoholic family WAS more than I could deal with on my own. The effects of my childhood went in many directions I couldn’t see, even resisted looking at, and certainly couldn’t resolve on my own. When I sought the help of professionals, it gave me invaluable insight and assistance in dealing with my carryover issues from childhood. It was a very freeing experience!

Have you ever struggled to accept outside help?
