One of the great things about photography is the incredible diversity of images one can collect. I say collect as opposed to make because there is a difference even though the line between taking pictures and making pictures is so blurry these days.
Here’s an image I collected and then tweaked slightly to increase the contrast. I came upon a set of stairs going up from the beach. It was early evening and my intention was to get a high contrast image of the stairs because the edges of the stairs glowed in the setting sun creating the lines.
I saw this vision of the image as I approached the stairway (can you find the stairs yet?). The sun was low and only just glancing off the edges of the steps making the glowing striations. While I pondered the light and colour I saw the abstraction.
I used a fast shutter speed to catch the contrast and then used Photoshop to push the contrast another 10%. And then I turned the photo 90 degrees.
What do you think? Was I successful in getting an evocative image?
