John, I would love to see AM's book that you mention ... is there an English version? Although I can read French, it's at a snail's pace (with help of a dictionary) and quite painful. But she's brilliant! Look forward to seeing you. Maybe we could have an African/Carribean Unity Feast and I could later feature you, customs and recipes from places you've lived?

Sandra, remind me (I'll be there in July) to show you or lend you "L'Acadie pour quasiment rien" written (and autographed - there's a story there) by Antonine Maillet of "La Saguine" et al. fame.

Hi Sandra, great introductory article to the rich Acadian story of SW Nova Scotia. For readers who are interested in experiencing it first hand, we recommend you download the PDF (or request the actual brochure) of the Acadian Shores Interpretive Tour bilingual map-brochure, featuring 25 historic and cultural sites that tell the Acadian story in Yarmouth & Acadian Shores. This is a self-directed tour that requires a vehicle. http://www.yarmouthandacadianshores.com/what-to-do/tours-and-trails/
The author of this article (Sandra Phinney) researched the content for the interpretive panels found at each site of this tour. And 4 more sites will be added later this Spring for a total of 29 to explore, plus a geocaching experience!

Michael, you make a great point about Chetticamp. Another GREAT Acadian community in Nova Scotia. And., of course, there are many Acadian communities in PEI and NB. Just not enough time to write about them all! (But I'm thinking of doing a book about Acadian Culture and "must visit" places in Atlantic Canada.

Keep tuned!

There's no doubt that the Acadian area of the Nova Scotia mainland has much to offer. But there's another part of the province where the Acadians are just as vibrant a presence, the St, Lawrence shore in northern Cape Breton. As on the mainland, the population in and around Cheticamp on the shore of the Gulf of St Lawrence has all the qualities and characteristics of the Acadians on the mainland.
An interesting sidelight -- on the Transcanada Highway between Brandon in the western part of Manitoba and Winnipeg, there's a property that flies the Acadian flag alongside the Canadian flag. Perhaps the Francophone population of the area of Winnipeg that is predominately French or perhaps Acadian, St Boniface, has at least that one presence enroute to the 'Peg.
